We spend countless hours vetting tanneries that share our commitment to ethical transparency and environmental responsibility, ensuring that every piece of leather we acquire is a byproduct of the food industry and processed with respect for the planet.

Our selection process is driven by a “hands-on” philosophy. We prioritize full-grain and top-grain leathers, which are the highest tiers of the hide. Unlike inferior “genuine” or bonded leathers that hide flaws under heavy plastics, our full-grain leather celebrates the natural history of the animal. We look for those subtle markings and unique textures that tell a story, ensuring your finished product possesses a soul and a character that only improves with age.

The technical side of our sourcing is equally rigorous. Our experts evaluate the chemistry of the tanning process to match the leather to its future purpose. For our rugged belts and structured bags, we source Vegetable Tanned leather—a traditional, bark-based process that results in a firm, sweet-smelling material that develops a legendary patina. For our softer apparel and dog collars, we select premium Chrome Tanned hides for their vibrant colors and supple, water-resistant finish.
