Once the primary components are cut, we transition into the technical art of “thinning and slicing.” This stage is where we address the physical bulk of the leather to ensure that the final product is as elegant as it is durable. It begins with specialized strap and lace cutting, where we use precision machinery to slice leather into perfectly consistent widths. Leather is naturally thick and fibrous; if you were to simply fold a full-thickness piece over itself to create a seam, the result would be bulky, uncomfortable, and prone to premature wear. To prevent this, our technicians use high-speed, razor-sharp skiving blades to meticulously thin down the edges of the leather components. By tapering the edges—sometimes down to a fraction of a millimeter—we create the “scarf” needed for seamless overlapping. This allows us to fold edges over for a “turned edge” finish or join two pieces together without doubling the thickness of the seam.
